Ever wonder what’s the value of loose change? As a consumer, we all have gone through the experience of buying something from groceries, fast food chains, drugstores or department stores. Also, as a commuter, with prices of diesel increasing daily as much, or more often than not, greater than the most recent oil price rollback, we paid at least the minimum fare for our daily commute. Here are some thoughts:

My Nephew’s Valedictory Address: Our Promise, Our Challenge

My eldest nephew, the son of my second sister, delivered this Valedictory Address today during their graduation ceremonies with a theme: “A Partner Towards Transformational Society, An Answer to Societal Change.” Being the proud uncle, I could not help but be nervous about the whole thing. I even gave some thoughts and pointers about giving the speech. Here’s the full text of his speech:

Tracert-ing Smart

Continuing yesterday’ post, Pinging Smart, communication between the Broadband Internet user and the Service Provider involves transmission of these packets from one end to another. Tracert (also known as traceroute) is a Windows based tool that allows such test. It is a computer network tool for measuring the route path and transit times of packets across an Internet Protocol (IP) network.

The two recent posts, 06 March and 07 March, about Smart Broadband Internet led to the scrutiny of what really are the most important things in an Internet connection: download and upload Speeds [or lumped by such providers as bandwidth], Latency, and Ping (including Packet Loss and Jitter). There are a number of web sites offering tweaks to improve Internet connection, while some offers tools to test the Internet connection in terms of these three factors, among others. This is not a place to find those tweaks and tools. Just Google them.

Yesterday’s post was based on data taken in the morning which usually is the peak time for SmartBro subscribers to be on-line. Thus, for the sake of fairness, the following data is from the presumably off-peak, or lean, time for the SmartBro subscribers to be on-line. Most of these snapshots were taken between 01:00 H to 04:00H (01:00 to 04:00 a.m.).

With the Compaq Presario 2100 Notebook back to a good working performance after the three-day Right Mouse Click Opens Another Firefox Tab experience, as most files have already been back-up to the external drive, I proceeded with creating a new partition to host solely the page file, pagefile.sys.

Re-installation of Firefox 3.6.13 to the Notebook, without Xmarks went without a hitch. No more Right-Click on URLs opening a New Tab! Apparently, the Xmarks add-on is installed but DISABLED in Firefox Portable. Will not try to reinstall Xmarks add-on in this Notebook then disable it. Period.
