I noted in my yesterday’s post that a Postscript for this series of posts regarding my Travian experience would be written when the Wonder of the World in the Philippine Server 3 and Speed Server are built. My Travian experience is on going, and apparently my revised strategy on the newest servers are working rather just fine.

On the second day playing the test server of the Travian game version 3.6, the levelling up of my Village resource fields continued. Only four remaining fields have yet to be upgraded to Level 2. Still retaining Warehouse and Granary at Level 1, respectively, while I continued with amassing troops. Also, I have used the free Travian Gold to preview the 24x24 map of my immediate vicinity and found only a half a handful had accumulated population much similar in number as my starting Village. These particular players have signed up hours before me. Thus, I surmised that in time, I could be at par in terms of their troops’ strength but wary that any time on my third day, which was later today, the attack on my Village will soon start. Usually Teutonic troops prey on Roman villages as soon as they come out of beginner’s protection. Troops ... troops ... troops! Keep creating troops. Incidentally, A Gallic neighbor—now with twice as much population than my Village—proposed some kind of partnership: a personal non-aggression pact for our respective villages, and he offered to be my defensive shield in the future. I accepted, knowing one less enemy Village within my sphere of influence looks promising for my Village survival.

On the day after I was accepted as a new member of the supra-Alliance, I was pleasantly surprised there were no incursions on my solitary Village from my regular attackers. Although a war was soon declared versus the supra-Alliance as expected, the newly rebuilt Granary was overflowing and the Warehouse was bursting on its seams. I immediately upgraded my Palace again and the Heroes’ Mansion. Lest one forget, these buildings were repeatedly catapulted decreasing their respective levels since the day when the Baptism of Fire started right after my quest to revive Alliance X-Redux.

As discussed in my previous post, the release of a new Travian version, 3.6, currently being tested on three servers specifically com10, tr9, and asia5, the worried comments on the recent changes from most of the big players and a number of Travian Gold users are understandable. I guess these players have become experts on these lesser versions that they just would not want to loose their edge. Change is really unnerving to some, or simply not welcomed by others.

Previously, I have posted my analysis on the revival of a dysfunctional Travian Alliance X in one of its Philippines-hosted servers. The aftermath of such revival became somewhat like a Baptism of Fire for my Travian village, whereby the biggest Alliances took turns in attacking my solitary village for days, beginning 26 October 2009, seemingly without stop. In my exasperation, I posted a blow-by-blow report on the successive attacks from the first day until recently, the latest just this morning. While I was in Server 2, I kept meticulous notes of the date, time and offensive troops of my incessant attacker there. I had this urge that once I have the troops to muster strength, I could go on head-to-head with his attacks. I was wrong: Rams and Catapults wreck all buildings and upgrade I have built for a month and without an Alliance then, I was alone, helpless and vulnerable. I have already deleted my Server 2 account after a month starting at Server 3. As of today, the Natars are roaming in Server 2, Server 3 and Speed Server.

Last 30 October, the Philippine Daily Inquirer online featured an Agence France-Presse [AFP] (2009) article—bearing the usual “Copyright 2009 Agence France-Presse. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed,”— which announced that the U.S. emerges from long recession based on the recently released US Commerce data.

In an article entitled The obligation of rich nations (2009), a critical reaction to the raised eyebrows of newspaper headlines on President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo saying that the rich nations should fund the rehabilitation of the Philippines, Atty. Rita Linda V. Jimeno declared that “Indeed our nation is a climate change victim. And the offenders or tortfeasors are the developed and rich nations which, for centuries, have been wreaking havoc on the environment.”

While browsing the old issues of Asiaweek, I came across a similar graphical analysis whereby the price of McDonald’s Big Mac hamburgers were compared in ten cities. Recalling that I have written a post on this, a revisit would seemingly be in order.

In 1993, Asiaweek published The 50 Largest Enterprises in ASEAN (Asiaweek, 06 January 1993). For the Philippines, seven enterprises in terms of sales were among the top 50: San Miguel Corp. (beer, food and softdrinks); Phil. National Oil Co. (oil, energy); Pilipinas Shell Petroleum (oil refining, distribution); National Power Corp (Power generation); Manila Electric Co. (power supply); Caltex (Phils) (oil refining, distribution); and Philippine Airlines (air transport). Sixteen years later, most of the biggest enterprises in the Philippines are still among the biggest, with San Miguel Corp., topping the list in 1993, not making it in Business World’s list for 2008?
