The Travian Romans Are Attacking! Part V

Roman LegionaireAs soon as I logged in early morning, I was a bit surprised that nobody attacked my Village in the com10 server while I was fast asleep. Most probably the previous six attackers have decided not to farm my Village having virtually gotten nil to very minimal loot after waging about twenty-six incursions when my beginner’s protection wore off. I still have not forgotten the four attacks from three co-members of the Alliance I recently joined. Being vindictive, I vowed that in the event that they switched to another Alliance, it would be my signal to launched a retaliation to recover whatever losses I have incurred back then! I constantly monitored the Alliance attack logs for these three players and keeping tabs on the number of their offensive and defensive troops. Thus, this is the second day of no attacks on my Village.

This lull gave me the opportunity to scout for prospective farms outside my 7×7 sphere of influence as my Village was almost surrounded by co-members of the same Alliance. Most of the new players were sprouting about an hour away from my village thus it was imperative that I will have to increase the strength of my troops to reach these players in due time, i.e., when their respective beginner’s protection also wore off.

With my self-imposed no-resource-upgrade strategy till my Village, now with 101 citizens, have four level 10 Crannies, I relied on just selling off excess Crops (Crop) in exchange for other resources to the Marketplace to upgrade necessary military installations. I have also upgraded my Rally Point raising the limit of troop movements from four to twelve. This Rally Point limit might also explain why my Village was not attacked by the same old attackers. As soon as the trade of crop-to-resources came in, I has the opportunity to build more troops, and upgrade the Academy, the Armoury and the Workshop. Still short of building a Stable, but it is getting there.

Once two [2] Crannies reached level 10, I upgraded three resource fields one-level up each starting with the much-needed resource: Clay (Clay)! As soon as these upgrades were completed, my Village was still in short supply of three resources, except for crops, to upgrade the military installations but enough to beef up the number of offensive troops.

Once I was home from work, my Village accumulated enough resources to build a number of attack troops after upgrading the Residence. Fortunately, no attack on my Village while I was at work. Viewing the Attack Logs, most of my colleagues, especially the founder and the two other members before me were already attacking with 3 to 5 troops, but no Heroes in tow.

I also added posts in the Alliance Forum to generate conversation. Incidentally, viewing the Alliance news, I lately found out that I was the third person invited into the Alliance and the one who killed my Village Rat was fifth. I was only ahead of him about 27 hours in joining the Alliance. Had I known this fact, I could have exacted my revenge within that span of time. Oh, no crying over spilt milk, there will be another opportunity another time.

Tomorrow will be a big day for my Village, I might soon start attacking unsuspecting newbies without their beginner’s protection. Moreover, I have also researched the population strength of the original six attackers when I started playing in this server.

Five attackers’ Villages boasted of 25% higher than my Village’s population but most players know that population is not indicative of the number of troops defending the Village. As I still do not have a Scout, I could not really ascertain how many were present in these attackers’ Villages. Incidentally, one of the six attacked one of my Alliance co-member, the one who killed my Village Rat, and from the attack logs, it was evident that the attacker sent off his usual 10 Legionaires against my colleague’s three Clubswingers. A taste of their own medicine, I guess.

I have already exhausted most of the available resources for upgrades and troop building, and before I retired to bed, I previewed the server statistics and found out that the Number One player had already created a second Village, thus making his account’s overall population at 392 citizens. The next nine players were still with one village each, much like the rest of us.

The number of users playing Romans (about 50%) are still greater than those playing Teutons (about 24%) and Gauls (about 26%). There were now about 23,000 registered players (about 88% were said to be active) while only about a thousand were online at this time. The number of registered players in com10 is virtually the same in quantity with all other servers I have had an account. If this was the case, then the apprehension of the big players as they predicted in the forum had not had an effect on the number of players signing up. Yet, I was not surprised that there was a virtual increase in the number of players opting to play Gaul, which as per game design more defensive in nature.

The neighboring Teutons in my sphere of influence, 7×7, are still farming and looting. Meanwhile, some Romans in my Alliance are at least also doing their equal share of farming. So maybe, the playing field is now more level than in older versions of Travian, where the Teutons had all the fun? Beware though: the Romans are strengthening and they might soon be in the neighborhood near you! And don’t complain that we, the Romans, did not warn you of our power!
