On the day after I was accepted as a new member of the supra-Alliance, I was pleasantly surprised there were no incursions on my solitary Village from my regular attackers. Although a war was soon declared versus the supra-Alliance as expected, the newly rebuilt Granary was overflowing and the Warehouse was bursting on its seams. I immediately upgraded my Palace again and the Heroes’ Mansion. Lest one forget, these buildings were repeatedly catapulted decreasing their respective levels since the day when the Baptism of Fire started right after my quest to revive Alliance X-Redux.
Then at 19:41H, one of my regular attackers, who is a member of another wing of the supra-Alliance, raided my solitary Village with 350 Clubswingers versus what pathetic troops I could muster after upgrading the Warehouse, Granary, Palace and Heroes’ Mansion: ten Praetorians, six Equites Legatis and a Hero. Of course, the result was expectantly disastrous, but despite the decimation of my troops, the attacker only looted about 2,700 crops. Nice! The latter was understandable because my village’s Granary was almost again full even after the recent upgrades. Building upgrades only required some minimal crops thus I sent almost 2/3 of them to the Marketplace in exchange for other resources and sent some scouts to spy on my previous farms, timed before the actual attack. Fortunately, the attacker did not send his Hero thus he incurred 11 casualties. Nice! The illustration shown right (images taken from the Travian Help) is a rough estimate of the size of troops in this unbalanced battle.
Hours before the landfall, I wrote an In-Game Message [IGM] to my supra-Alliance sponsor and asked for clarification. I also reported this incident to the leader of the supra-Alliance. They both replied instantly that I should have introduced myself to other members: confeds and NAPs, especially those who were previously attacking my Village; and wrote them a note that I have recently joined the supra-Alliance. There is this unwritten rule that confederate members are disallowed attacking each other, but sometimes, like in Real Life, friendly fires inadvertently do happen. The penalty for such action is either expulsion from the Alliance, or a game ban if the incident was reported to Multihunter. Not wanting to cause a commotion, being new to the team, I did what they told me to do: very nicely and straight to the point. My supra-Alliance sponsor immediately dispatched two waves of reinforcement to my Village which unfortunately almost depleted what available crops I have left after sending most to the Marketplace an hour earlier. Thus, after the attack and prior to the crops depletion, I immediately sent back most of the reinforcements yet kept a token number just in case the friendly attacker ignored my IGM.
Meanwhile, with the Natars freely roaming around which signaled the imminent completion of the game in the Philippine speed server and Server 3, which I still have respective accounts, I ventured back into the international server. I had have a very nice rapport with international players, and they are very courteous; and more often than not, diplomacy is paramount compared to the local version. Maybe some Filipinos Travian players are wont to take all their Real Life’s frustrations about the economic state of the country on some unsuspecting or unskilled Travian players. I surmised that maybe by winning vicariously, these Filipino players have at least gained some satisfaction in their virtual and, thus, some confidence in their Real Lives. At least in the world of Travian, who cares about who or why Erap is running for President.
I have been intrigued reading the forum’s negative comments about the COM10, where Travian version 3.6 is currently on test run. Compared to the number of registered players online on the Philippine servers, which accordingly have reached the allotted server maximum numbers, the online players in the international servers are always very few. Wanting to personally experience whether the trial server was what the forum comments perceived it to be: advantageous to Gauls, killed Teutonic farming, limited raids commensurate with the Rally Point level, among others; I signed up for an account, again as a Roman discounting forum hints and I do loved the Roman challenge, just for the sake of knowing what’s the fuss was all about the changes in the new version.
I vowed to apply whatever I learned from my previous Travian experience, particularly in the Philippine servers and s8.com. All resource fields already on Level 1 before the first day was over. A Cranny going to Level 10 which would afford building more crannies. A Rally Point leveling up, then a Barracks going to Level 3 to build an Academy. Main Building at Level 5 to prepare building a Palace. An Embassy at Level 1 with ongoing negotiations for membership to an Alliance. I should have joined an Alliance early on in the game, I thought. That was a critical mistake in Philippine Server 2. Fortunately, nobody has yet attempted to murder the token defense from the Village Elders: a Rat; and the required two Legionnaires for some instant replenishment of vital resources. Some of the resources fields are going to Level 2 which would soon be rewarded with additional Travian Gold. I changed some of my previous strategies, like for instance, retaining the Warehouse and Granary at Level 1 with 1200-capacity each until I have a Level 10 Cranny. At that level, the Cranny could hold up to 1000 resources compared to only 36 units per resource per hour produced at Level 2 (36 x 4 = 108); plus the remaining crops less the Rat and Legionnaires’ consumption. In so doing, I justified, even if someone attacked my starting Village, the attacker would only likely to get a minuscule amount of loot while the single Cranny hides at least a third of the total production at the time of attack, thus this might in turn frustrate Teutons from coming back. The City Walls are also levelling up to protect the amassing troops.
Crossing my fingers now, I hope this time, I do have the free time to play … and enjoy the game.
