Maybe I am over-analyzing this, but one personality flaw I do have is persistence. I was called not-so nice names because of this trait. This is a continuation of yesterday’s post, where I highlighted some of my online strategy for the game called Travian.
I firmly believe that understanding the past would lead me to a better understanding of what’s in store in the future. I have posted several thoughts on this idea, and the recent events is one of such undertaking. By understanding what had happened, maybe I could refrain from whatever mistakes I have made. I intend to continue playing Travian online.
Anyway, on the third day after the debut of the newly formed Alliance X v.2.0, although rebuilding of the damaged installations were ongoing, sporadic attacks still came from confederates of Alliance C. Rebuilding would seemingly be a waste if these attacks continued, I temporarily sent off resources and troops to former Alliance X members and even to those that I have farmed in the past or prospective Alliance members.
While the attacks on my village on Speed Server continued, I drafted the first of the series of this posts just to let out the steam off my chest. No, I am not cowering. I am only lessening the emotional pain of actually seeing something you put your heart for sometime and virtually vanish right before your eyes. It is only a game, a war game, but sentimental reasons might cloud my judgment and my strategy. So, I just let it pass.
The attacks now were not too strong as before, but still Rams and Catapults were becoming the standard usage for destruction. For three whole days, 24 hours each, just for forming (or rather reviving) a dysfunctional Alliance, the members of the confederates were like the blind following the one-eyed jack?
I really wonder who issued this edict to get rid of my village from Travian Speed Server’s existence? More like a fatwa of getting rid of the infidels? Or submitting Japan to unconditional surrender in 1945 by nuclear bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Or a neophyte, a pledgee, being clubbed by his supposedly-called brothers, during a fraternity’s initiation rites?
Exasperation set in. I sent IGMs to third day’s attackers re-quoting words I posted here, to wit:
“My pleasure of joining Travian was to experience something the real world has apparently denied me: interaction with intelligent, reasonable and fair human beings (Filipinos, included). When this server started, I was threatened with a libel suit because of what I wrote in my blog regarding the company I am presently connected.”
“Unfortunately, with your additional attacks on my struggling village, have caused me real anxiety. ”
“But I believe you with a compassionate heart would be so kind enough to send me help in any kind of way, to enjoy my virtual life as I have. If anything, this is just a game, as you might have surmised, but without work in real life, Travian became my consolation aside from little enjoyment I get from interacting live with other players. I’ve met new friends, corresponded with them, and shared our virtual in-game experiences.”
“I have not attacked your village, neither did I personally attack your good soul, heart or person. Yet, you must really hate the fact that I am within your Travian vicinity, which by fluke brought by randomness. Do you really believe that after all the attacks you and your alliance and your confederates and your NAPs have done, my village could retaliate in the near future? ”
“I don’t want to believe that if my real life is caving on me, at least I can gain solace in my virtual life, but apparently you desired to end my virtual existence at Travian speed server, as well.”
“If you could find it in your heart to stop the attacks, and at least send me a note of acknowledgment receipt of this missive, I can’t thank you enough!”
“Thanks for reading this far. Enjoy the Game!”
Immediately after sending that IGM, two waves of attack were looming in my village’s horizon. These attacks totally destroyed my newly rebuilt warehouse. Then she replied, as if by afterthought: she was sorry to have only read my IGM but she could not recall the attacks, thus she was sending back some resources to regain what she had damaged and promised that the two recent attacks against my village were her last. I thanked her just the same. I clearly remembered these same reply when I was still in Server 2.
The irony of it all was that after destroying my village’s Warehouse from Level 8 with a capacity of 7,800 resources (i.e., after rebuilding it from the destroyed Warehouse with a capacity of about 21,400 prior to the attack three days ago) to the Travian default 800-capacity, the resource fields were still producing as much as 700 to 800 per hour. To my surprise, while I was still upgrading the default 800-capacity to 1,200-capacity Warehouse, she immediately sent me back 3,000 lumber, 1,500 clay and 3,000 iron; thus resulting to 2,400 lumber, 700 clay and 2,400 iron gone to Travian oblivion! What a waste of precious resources!
Prior to signing out, I changed my game profile. Instead of the usual beginner’s dove, I also added sort of an online diary of the attacks from 25 October, a day prior to the debut of Alliance X v.2.0. The list, entitled The Baptism of Fire, highlights the date and time of attack, the attackers, their Alliance, and the buildings they have destroyed. It might bring another wave of attack, but with decreased levels in resource fields and buildings, what would they get? An inefficient raid would simply be a waste of time. On the other hand, I wish some would be able to read it prior to attacking my village and it may trigger some second thoughts on their aggression.
On the left panel of my profile, in addition to my usual quoted lines about defense and offense, I asked a simple question in the dialect, translated as: Is Travian just like the popular TV game show: 1 vs 100? I wished that they would all win. Then I asked: Why do they all hate me? Is the world really capable of hating one person?
In retrospect, maybe I should have included the lines about the libel suit re-quoted above.
