My expat boss called me up one day asking me to point the location of Ukraine in a globe located near his desk.
“Did you know that Ukraine is much nearer to India than the Philippines?” I asked.
“No,” he said emphatically. “I just want you to find it for me.”
“Did you not have a Geography lesson in school?” Got the globe and brought it to his office desk.
He did not answer.
“This is India.” I pointed at its location on the globe. “And this is the Philippines. Ukraine is here!”
“Is Australia part of Asia,” he asked like a grade schooler.
“No, Australia is a separate continent like Asia.”
“So Australia is not part of ASEAN [Association of Southeast Asian Nations]?”
“Yes, it is not” Pointing Australia on the globe, “This is Australia, by the way.”
“Ah, I see.”
“Next time, kindly use this globe whenever you need to.” Returning the globe to the rack then went to the door to go out.
“How come you know all these?”
“They taught me Geography in grade school!” And out I went!
